I suppose it's Ken Read's fault. I had made a list of several different
things I wanted to do for my Junior Recital at CCU,
one of which was a short film score (for a film no longer than 15
minutes). I had actually planned to write a variety of pieces,
filling about 60 minutes of recital space.
I don't think he realized that I was planning on doing a combination
of all of them. Instead, he focused on the film score.
It's true that I've wanted to write a film score since I came to CCU,
and I've wanted to make movies since the sixth grade, but I had no
idea what I was getting myself into.
Originally, I assumed we could finish shooting the entire film within
four 12-hour days. I think it turned into twelve days, which had
to be spread out across six months, due to actors' schedules. The
release date was pushed back five times, until I decided to stop making
one up until it was actually done.
It's been a ridiculous journey, with things going wrong constantly...
accidentally losing footage, having to cut scenes due to time and
money, sets disappearing, the crew constantly changing, a viewfinder
that only worked half the time, a noisy boom mic...the normal indie
film stuff.
I'm glad to put this chapter of my life behind me,
and yet I'm grateful...for the crew, the cast, and this whole experience.
I really hope you enjoy the film, and I hope it does speak to you
in a unique way... there has to be a reason that this did end up getting
made. If you know of any such reason, let
me know. Thank you so much. I'm glad you're here.
